St. Helen University School of Medicine (SHU) offers students an opportunity to earn MD degrees in accordance to the preferred international credentials of countries including North America, Europe, Africa, Asia and the Caribbean. SHU also offers Premed courses to prepare students to enter the MD program.
Doctor of Medicine
The Doctor of Medicine (MD) program is a 4-year program comprised of 2 years of pre-clinical study and 2 years of clinical rotations. The learning model integrates real life experience with communities, Health Centers and Hospitals starting in year 1. Students are prepared for the USMLE, and provided assistance with placements for rotations in St. Lucia, US and Canada.
Premed program
The pre-medical program is a 2-year program designed to prepare students to enter the Doctor of Medicine (MD) program. Premed students will have access to similar facilities and e-libraries as MD students. They will also have many opportunities to interact with MD students and lecturers, giving them vast learning opportunities. The Premed program is scheduled to start in May 2013. Applications for that session will be accepted and processed starting in August 2012.

Medicine & Surgery School
The Faculty of Medical Sciences at UIA gives students a chance to pursue a career in medicine according to the highest academic standards in fields including Human Physiology, Histology, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Anatomy, and Microbiology. Combining a hands-on approach with intensive theoretical study, the campus includes modern laboratories located at El SeƱorial Practicum Center where the available technology and resources enable students to receive an all-encompassing, well-rounded education.
UIA also has enriching programs for clinical practice in a variety of hospitals where students are supervised by resident doctors and teachers who are trusted authorities in their respected fields.

The primary focus of the School of UIA is to provide and sustain practical and theoretical knowledge, skills, behaviors and values that are necessary for successful career development. Students earning a degree in this program will acquire the essential skill set required for delivering interdisciplinary patient-centered care in a rural-frontier environment. The instructors guiding the students are experienced in teaching, dedicated to their field, and have solid backgrounds in clinical services and research. Throughout the duration of the program, students will conduct research, submit abstracts, and participate in medical outreach programs. UIA will also facilitate academic progress by providing a wide range of internships and externships at trusted affiliated facilities.
